Making the move from 'PlasmidTools Net40' to 'PlasmidTools Wpf'
PlasmidTools Net40 was discontinued November 2017. The final version was 1.4.0.1. The information below is for users who still have this old application (or older) installed, and want to upgrade to PlasmidTools Wpf.
PlasmidTools Wpf is a fully compatible replacement for the now discontinued PlasmidTools Net40. The new application uses the same document structure for project / alignment / database files, and will detect and register sequence databases created in PlasmidTools Net40 during installation. After installing the new application, simply continue the work where you left off in PlasmidTools Net40.
PlasmidTools Wpf may be installed side-by-side with the former PlasmidTools Net40 application. However, PlasmidTools file types (*.ptools, *.ptalign, *.seqdb) will then continue to be associated with the old application which then owns the double-click event in Windows Explorer. It's recommended to uninstall the old PlasmidTools Net40 application and remove the file-type associations before installing PlasmidTools Wpf.
In order to have the file-type associations implemented correctly in Windows Explorer, first install an earlier version of PlasmidTools Wpf signed with a commercially obtained certificate which will implement system settings, then uninstall it and install latest version.
- Uninstall PlasmidTools Net40
- Remove PlasmidTools file-type definitions
- Install an earlier version of PlasmidTools Wpf (ver. 2.0.1.0): Install it using this link
- Uninstall PlasmidTools Wpf
- Download and install latest version of PlasmidTools Wpf. Don't forget to read 'About installation'.
PlasmidTools file types must be set to open in the "
ClickOnce Application Deployment Support Library" in order to be opened by double-click in Windows Explorer.
