Text Editor
The Text Editor
is used by various program functions to display results and information such as PCR primer reports, translation views and
export of project to other formats. The editor handles rich-text formatted documents (*.rtf) with font settings and colors
etc., and any type of plain-text files. Documents created by PlasmidTools are rich-text formatted, but may be saved as plain
text by choosing this in the file-type drop-down list (*.txt, *.genbank, etc.). Documents that obviously are ment to be
plain text will have plain-text format set as default save mode.
Documents may be opened, edited, printed and saved. Cut/copy/paste functions may be used, for example to copy sequence text to the sequence pane. Bold, italic and underline styles may be applied to selected text.
The text editor has five paragraph styles that may be applied to an active paragraph (where the cursor is positioned): Heading1, Heading2, Heading3, BodyText and Sequence text. All styles are customizable and can be modified in the 'Options' menues found in the TextEditor toolbar and in the main window menu. Paragraph style 'Sequence text' must use a mono-spaced font like 'Consolas' or 'Courier New'. The default is Consolas. Modified paragraph styles are applied to new documents created and when applying paragraph styles to paragraphs in an open document.
RTF documents do not have definitions for Heading1 etc., but instead saves fonttype/size/color/etc. in every paragraph. Look at the paragraph styles as style collections that can be applied to paragraphs in order to have consistent formatting.
